Important changes in ORBTR and Torq prospecting emails

As you may or may not be aware, MailChimp has made some very significant changes to  their Mandrill transactional email service, the same service that ORBTR’s prospecting email marketing system is built on.

If you are using ORBTR’s prospecting marketing emails, please read on. If not, you can stop reading and continue with your day.

We understand that these changes are inconvenient and maybe a bit irritating but MailChimp has their reasons and they did partially fund this ORBTR feature so know that they are just doing what they believe to be best for their business and yours. We have been working to find the best way to make this transition as painless for you — our users — as possible.

You must verify your sending domain by 4/26

This is now a Mandrill requirement, and the reason is simple: it prevents people from sending emails from domains they do not own. You need to make two changes (or ask your webmaster, IT person, or webhost to help you it if it seems too technical, they will know exactly how to get this done):

First, add or modify an SPF record in your sending domain

If you do not have an SPF record on your sending domain, add the following SPF record:

v=spf1 include:spf.mandrillapp.com ?all

 

If you already have an SPF record, just add

include:spf.mandrillapp.com

 

in the record (before the last operator, which is usually ?all, ~all, or -all).

Next, add a DKIM record in your sending domain

Add a new TXT record with the name

mandrill._domainkey.yourdomain.com

 

(just replace yourdomain.com with the domain you’re setting up).

The value for the record should be one of the options listed below. There are two options because the record contains semicolons. Some DNS providers escape semicolons for you while others require you to do it when you set up the record. If you don’t know which version to use, call your hosting company.

With semicolons escaped:

With semicolons unescaped:

If you have your own Mandrill account and are NOT using the ORBTR default sending settings…
